1. Bianca - Bleecker St. between Elizabeth St. and Bowery

I don't know how this missed my previous two NYC posts. It might very well be my favorite restaurant. My friend Rachel took me here for the first time last year on a double date and Luke and I have been many times since. I don't know how this place stayed under my radar for so long since I work right by it and it is right in the heart of NYU-land. Bianca is a very authentic Italian restaurant on Bleecker St. and the food is unbelievably tasty. I always get the Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese. And it is CHEAP. Like, really cheap! You can get a nice bottle of wine for $25 and the entrees are mostly under $10. There can be a wait, but they send you to the bar next door and the very charming maitre d' will come and find you.

2. TOP HAT - Broome St. between Ludlow St. and Orchard St.

I remember walking home to my old chinatown apartment one night and walking past this place. It was like this perfect store, with perfect paper goods and ceramics and all kinds of beautifully designed exports, that also advertised toboggan rentals out front. It's one of those places you can't not get something every time you go. And to entice you more, there is a huge selection of wooden bird whistles! I once waited over an hour for my friend Tyler to finish up trying every single whistle (don't do that). Perfect gifts for kinda everyone.

3. Brook Farm General Store - South 6th between Berry and Wythe in Williamsburg

Another fantastic store I have been going to a bit lately! I found their website online this summer, before I realized they had a shop in Williamsburg. They have a very nicely edited selection of kitchen wares and blankets, baskets and other home things that are on the inexpensive side. Definitely check out their website, it is great for gifts, but I really recommend going to the shop. (photos via Sunday Suppers)

My friend Jordan and I saw Sam Amidon perform in September of 2005 when we were NYU freshman at, what I think, was a show at North 6th in Williamsburg. I can't remember who he opened for. It was one of those many magical moments when I first arrived in New York hearing him play. A few weeks later, it could have been less than that, my new friends and I invited ourselves to an intimate house party at a loft in south Williamsburg where he played with Doveman and The Robot Ate Me. It was funny, because we definitely weren't invited, it was a very small group of their friends there, but we drank and danced and I think they were excited we came.

I saw her last night open for Beirut in Portland, Maine and I was pretty much in awe as soon as she started singing. She began instrumentless in the middle of the stage State Theater. She has such an intense, haunting, beautiful voice. She lives in Brooklyn now so hopefully that means I will get to see her again very soon.

Yikes, first post in a month! I have had a very very busy past couple of weeks - I moved to Williamsburg last Saturday with my boyfriend. I still don't have internet, but there is a super cute cafe near my new place called "2nd stop" that I have been going to quite a bit. It reminds me of a coffee shop near my grandparents house on Cape Cod, which furthers my feeling that I'm on vacation and that this is only temporary. It has been an amazing change so far. My block is so quiet and breezy and there are so many trees. I missed Brooklyn so much!

So happy that this shade is turning up in clothing form. This morning after a lovely Balthazar bench breakfast with my old roomie Caitlin, I walked to Opening Ceremony to be reminded how much I love Cacharel in the form of a Chartreuse cotton dress. Cacharel has become one of my favorite favorite labels in the past couple of years because of their crazy cute liberty prints and color palette. Once all my apartment business is taken care of, and I can loosen up my pockets a little bit, I really hope it still is in the store.

My boyfriend and I are moving in together and while all I should be thinking of is saving pennies to get a good place, I just want to start stockpiling beautiful furniture and pretty things to put around our new house. The desktop of my computer has just become a mountain of inspiration photos. Craigslist is scaring the shit out of me at the moment, and I'm terrified that we will have terrible credit scores and bad bank statements and I just want the looking and saving to be over so I can settle in.

This morning when I was walking home to my apartment in the deep part of the lower east side (if you consider it the les still/chinatown/projects area), I decided to take Henry street, which I never do, but because I don't think after years of living a block south of it that I have ever walked on Henry. And when I turned the corner I came across a storefront with no sign and the window full of beautiful cactus plants, and I peeked in and saw an array of gorgeous leather shoes and bags. After some digging, I found out it is called ABK and the owner, Alya Kazakevich hand makes all of the leather goods. I am going to try to go back today with Luke. It is odd and really exciting coming across anything like this south of Canal street. A little treasure on my end of the neighborhood

Today was the launch of a very beautiful new e-shop called ANAISE. In July my boyfriend and I are moving in together and I am crazy about these cups and pretty tablecloths. Luke and I were actually talking about tablecloths just yesterday (we were!) and these are the top of my wishlist. The selection of dresses and everything else is so wonderfully curated. My introduction to J.W. Anderson was actually last fall when I met a super cute girl wearing the cuuutest navy pleated skirt and tee-shirt with a heart made of fat lilac embroidered flowers, but I didn't realize at the time, and I never asked her who the designer was. I just remember loving those pieces, and then about a month ago I saw that same teeshirt on ASOS and my affection was reactivated. I'm crazy about his new lookbook (which features Hannah Noble, one of the most lovely and funny models I have actually had the pleasure of working with) and the clothes look so cool. I actually think my boyfriend is really easy to buy for, but it was harder for me to put together this little batch of gift ideas while avoiding what I actually got him (none of these things!) because I think he actually checks this once in a while. Ohhhh the degree to how much I love Christmas shopping is kind of crazy. I'm excited that it's finally an appropriate time to have it on the brain, because I usually start my hunting around mid-October. Getting things for my family and boyfriend is (oh I am so virtuous!) definitely more enjoyable than the receiving end. Inspired by the lovely Joanna's yearly gift guide, I decided to take a stab at it too. Pt 1. - My sisters (and good for a girl-friend/girlfriend too)

There are way too many places I could recommend, and I feel like I should pick a neighborhood to focus on when I do these posts, like, here is what you should do for a fulfilling day in Park Slope! But I am just gonna stick with my real favorites and unfortunately, they're all over the place. Anyway, here we go! Part 2: Only food

1. Cheeky Sandwiches - Orchard St. Between Canal and Hester St. (closes at 6pm)
Holy shit. I love Cheeky's. It's a hole-in-the-wall New Orleans style sandwich shop on Orchard St with about 5 things on the menu served & made by a very charismatic & super-model handsome Louisiana export in a black tie and thick black glasses. It's been open for less than a year and already has a cultish following. I always get the chicken sandwich on a biscuit with gravy and a bag of salt & vinegar chips (I ate one for breakfast this morning!), but everything is soo delicious. I mean, look at that picture, are you not salivating?

2. Joy Indian Restaurant - Flatbush Ave between St. Marks and Prospect Place
I used to live next door to Joy when I lived in Park Slope and I became embarrassingly addicted to it (they called me "Aloo Matar Gobi girl"). It isn't especially exciting inside, but by far its the best Indian I've had in the city. I went here for my birthday this year and it was perfect for a big group of people & super cheap (byob!). I highly recommend the trek out to the 7th Ave Q just to go here (maybe coordinate with a trip to Brooklyn Flea?)

3. Tea and Sympathy - Greenwich Ave between Jane St and West 12th St
This is an old standby for my boyfriend and I on wintery days to get super delicious comfort food and big pots of tea. Tea and Sympathy is a teeny English restaurant on a stretch of Greenwich Ave in the West Village home to a few other very-charming British establishments (I have yet to try A Salt and Battery next door for fish & chips, but I hear it's also really good). I always get the Chicken and Leek pie with mashed potatoes (and spend the extra two bucks or so for the onion gravy!) and Luke goes for the Steak and Guinness pie. Ahhh yum.

4. Northeast Kingdom - Wyckoff St. in Bushwick
My boyfriend and I have had more date nights here than anyplace else in the city. It's dark and intimate, and somewhat far off the beaten path (Jefferson L stop) in a neighborhood that at night appears desolate. When I go it makes me feel like I've stumbled upon a back woods tavern in the middle of nowhere. Definitely comfort food (I always get the chicken pot pie) and they have a great selection of specialty beers and wine.

My NYC Itinerary - Part 1

Inspired by the Refinery 29 city itineraries, I wanted to make my own version... these aren't necessarily places I have been once or twice that I think you should check out, but the places I go to drink/shop/eat/hangout on a regular basis. I am a creature of habit. I always appreciate when people blog about the places they frequent - when I was in San Francisco this month I haunted Annabel's blog for recommendations and it was awesome & incredibly helpful. You probably don't read this, but thank you Annabel!

1. Barrio Chino - Broome at Orchard in the LES
This place isn't exactly a secret downtown (but still kinda feels like it when you're there), and it can be a huge mob scene any time after 6pm, but if you have to wait I promise it is worth it (and it is never as long as they say it will be). The space is small and intimate, no one is waiting around (they call you when they have a table, so we usually just go to Sweet Paradise down the street and get happy hour) and the drinks are unreal (I get the strawberry vanilla or grapefruit habanero margarita). So is the guacamole. The staff are beautiful and friendly and there is always a nice, fun atmosphere.

2. LaHore Pakastani Deli - Crosby at Jersey in Soho
A hole in the wall cabby stand that I go to at least three times a week for lunch. $6 for a huge dish of rice covered in curried vegetables ($5 for a smaller dish)...I usually get chickpeas with cauliflower or bell pepper, but they have meat options also. It is so delicious and you get so much food for the price. Make sure to get a chai with sugar in the winter too. There are steps outside to the right that are good enough seating.

3. The Lucky Dog - Bedford Ave. at South 1st in Williamsburg
My most frequented bar in the city! A really friendly mixed crowd, really good and diverse beer menu, a big backyard patio and they let you bring your dog if you feel like, so there are always cute things wandering around. It's a very nice break from Union Pool which I go to more than I'd like to admit...(but kinda, sorta recommend too...;)

4. Dumont - Union Ave. at Devoe off of the Lorimer L
I don't eat that much meat, especially not red meat, but I could go here a couple times a week for a hamburger. I even had one for breakfast last weekend. I think the pickled onions are what make me love this burger the most, but the restaurant itself is incredibly cute (the inside as well as their pretty back garden - however, insist on sitting in the garden! even if they try to put you inside) and they will serve me a burger any time of the day (they have other good things too!). I also strongly recommend the cucumber & dill cocktail. Nearby (conveniently across from the Lucky Dog) they have Dumont Burger, which is just a little smaller with a condensed menu & just as delicious.

5. Assembly - Ludlow street below Houston in the LES
I love Assembly. They have a great mix of amazing vintage (the kind of vintage that doesn't scream vintage) and contemporary labels for girls and guys in one really cool space. Last winter I also scored a black over-dyed quilt that is one of my favorite pieces in my apartment. The girls that work there are really sweet and helpful, and there are so many things that are shockingly affordable. They have a linen heavy, perfectly unisex house label and also carry designers like Risto, Arielle DePinto and A Détacher for shoes. (also check out their new all-vintage store, Everybody's Going to Heaven around the corner on Rivington & Norfolk.)

I love the idea of Sweden's T-POST. I don't know who doesn't love getting mail, and magazines in the mail. I always forget that I've subscribed to things - the other day I got a copy of POP in the mail that I already own, because I forgot I had a subscription. But despite that I already had that issue it was exciting knowing that, yeah! I will be getting more of these! And I have already paid for them...its a surprise every couple months and it feels like its free. T-Post is kind of like getting a magazine, and it calls itself a magazine, but instead, every five weeks (that is more often than it sounds!) you're sent a new t-shirt designed by a different designer, with a news story screened on the inside. "There are t-shirts that can inspire a conversation. And there are t-shirts that can inspire a movement. T-post was created to do both. With T-Post, it’s not just what your t-shirt says about you or the artist who designed it, but also what your t-shirt says about the world. More than just a fashion piece, T-post uses great design as a subversive tool to instigate meaningful thought, conversation, and action. I went to Massachusetts last weekend to surprise my family BUT I didn't know what I was missing 2 blocks from my apartment! HESTER ST FAIR. It sounds like Manhattan's own Brooklyn flea with vintage vendors and good food and cute people galore. And this will be happening all summer and fall long! I might not spend all my free time in Brooklyn after all this summer. I don't even need to get on the train. Very exciting! See you there!

Forget that it isn't officially summer yet! I like to walk around my house singing this song all day long (not the Sublime verson...I just remembered that one..but i like that too ;). Sometimes I think I belong in the south or California or someplace where it is always warm and sunny. I also realize I blog and post pictures 10x more when the weather is nice - this is an unofficial ode to summer blog! I went to Pathmark today to see if they had a tri-fold lounge chair to put on my roof but with no luck - I will have to try K-Mart later. This summer will be me Saturday, Sunday, Monday lying on my roof in my chair, bathing suit, reading books and listening to the radio and the crazy people that hang out by my house and gettin' a tan. the weather this weekend in the city was crazy beautiful. everyone seemed to be outside taking advantage of the freak 70 degree string of days in mid march. my sisters were visiting and we napped in mccarren park in the sunshine and girls next to us were sunbathing (still wayyy to early for me...though i did buy 2 bathing suits this week! i am not ready to expose myself). there was hardly a place in the grass to put a blanket down. i'm escaping to charlotte nc with my boyfriend for the weekend, but for now back to rain and cold for the next month or so...

Last week I was relooking through style.com at the Spring/Summer collections and I got down to Miu Miu with noooo recollection as to what it looked like. I realized I hadn't ever seen it. Such a good surprise! The nude embellished pieces are so insanely gorgeous! I didn't love many collections from this season, but this one has become one of my total favorites. Maybe in a year I will be able to get my hair like that too...

I don't know much about Electric Feathers besides that I would be incredibly happy to wear pretty much anything from this collection and that it's from my ex-town of Brooklyn (I am now a Manhattan-lady...still not sure how I feel about it...). I have known about the label for a little while now. A girl came into A Détacher and was wearing one of (her?) really gorgeous jumpsuits. But either way...I am sure you will be happy to have heard of this label if you haven't already. The top dress is my absolute favorite.

I went to the opening of "Portugal" two nights ago at the amazing gallery/shop KIOSK the other night. This is one of my favorite places in the city. It is probably one of the few diamonds in the rough that exist in the terrible stretch of SOHO by Broadway. Every few months they open with a new exhibition of things they found in a specific place or country (& sell them). This time its Portugal. If you're in the city you should definitely check it out! Look for the pink neon arrow pointing up an inconspicuous staircase on the NW corner of Spring&Broadway. I am already thinking about Xmas and there are too many perfect things here to give.

I just got back from my super short trip to Paris this afternoon - I am trying to get back on normal time but I think my body is currently at 1:30 AM and I am not sure how long I can go without sleeping. I didn't really do anything too exciting - lots and lots of walking around and about 20 coffee breaks a day. I wish there were more sidewalk cafe's in New York like they are on every corner in Paris. Maybe the best parts of the trip was the hotel (not sad!) - a little classy brothel-y (there was a pay per hour room on my floor - and for I think the first time in my life I actually unmistakably heard something~ going on), and there was a bathtub in my first room! With Kiehl's everything! In my delirious state when I first arrived, it was maybe the best thing ever.

Yesterday I had a mini shopping spree at maybe my favorite small NYC boutique, Assembly, with the excuse that I need some 'practical' things to bring on an impromptu business trip to Paris next weekend. Yes, I am going on a business trip, and yes to PARIS. So awesome.

Anyway, if you haven't been to Assembly and are roaming around the Lower East Side ever you should check it out. It is so perfectly curated (Chronicles of Never, Risto Bimbiloski, Raquel Allegra etc etc) and has such a nice cave-like/old mans study atmosphere.

I am very obsessed with this one Risto dress

Either way, I walked out with an awesome black wool backpack as well as a Complex Geometries hooded sweatshirt that I'm certain will become my fall jacket. Maybe real photos later!

A lot of designers this season have seemed to substitute the runway for some pretty cool alternatives. Generally I don't love the look of presentations, but I really liked Phillip Lim's doll-housy set up for his men's collection and Boy by Band of Outsiders faux-beach. My favorite for sure has been Tom Scott at the Chelsea Hotel. Ah, so so awesome. It feels super whimsical/sexy/60s and the clothes are gorgeouss

I can't believe it's over! Everything I have been working on this summer kind of peaked this week, the artist I interned for, Rachel Foullon, had her opening Wednesday, my friend got married and last night was the A Détacher show. It looked amazing

Really bummed that I missed the Rachel Comey show this morning! The rooftop in kind of hazy gray weather and St Vincent playing Tom Petty cover songs sounds like it was a pretty amazing set up - unfortunately we are still knee-deep in planning for our own show Friday night. Very exciting though and it is calming down for sure. I walked around Bryant Park a little this afternoon and it seemed a lot less crazy than I imagined it would be. Going to a few parties this weekend, I am really excited for fashion night out tomorrow. I am going to do the hair test for A Détacher tomorrow night so I will hopefully have some cool updo and makeup! I am glad our show is early.

I haven't put much effort into dressing lately, with the exception of work, but I still stick to one-pieces and slip dresses. Otherwise its been too much AA and short shorts and tanks. New York is insanely humid and I wish I could say that I look fresh and put together all of the time but it is sadly not so true!

A few of my friends and I went to the free Dirty Projectors show last weekend in Williamsburg...much of which wasn't spent watching the bands (but standing in line because we walked out thinking we could just walk back in..nope!) and just wandering around in the street drinking. Still so much fun! More fashion soon... hopefully this will make up for my spotty posting.

Today I spent an incredibly, mostly rain free (annoying to keep talking about the weather, but really, like, it is very hard to not talk about it!) in Weston, CT hanging out at my friend Lindsay's house for a family party, sitting in a hot tub, drinking cosmopolitans and playing never have I ever. Most fun day of summer yet I think. It actually felt like summer (ahh, no more weather talk! sorry) which was so amazing. Getting out of New York is my new favorite thing. Anyway, I have been kind of-sort of going through the resort collections. Pretty late, but I kind of forgot about it. I don't think I have really found any complete collection I am totally into, but I definitely found lots of outfits I'd want to wear from a few.

All day I have been adding more and more things to my ebay account. I am really determined to get rid of everything I don't wear, which is probably a good 75% or more of my closet. I have weird attachments to things and feel guilty getting rid of them. Am I ever going to wear a spandex rouched purple ruffle dress ever again? No (that's going to Beacon's Closet I think...). I ordered a pair of HOPE pants a little while ago from Stand Up Comedy and unfortunately they were way too big. But! I am exchanging them for this Mono dress:

I have this really bad habit where I like to make up reasons as to why I need a new ________. That being said, I am graduating in two weeks from NYU and I want to find a dress. Hillary Clinton is speaking! Also all these emails from Refinery 29 about their Pop-Up shop at Port Authority that's starting tomorrow are already making me feel pretty shitty about what might happen to my bank account in the next week. Ahh, I need better self restraint! I really have been getting better about not frivolously buying things, I actually barely step into any stores other than the one I work in, but it's hard, and of course, I always have the Internet to torment me.

For the first time in a very long time my hair is getting past the medium, just over my shoulders length! I am pretty proud of myself for not cutting it. I always say I want long hair and then cut it to my shoulders a day later. I have been trying to wear it in different ways now that I can kinda, and my bangs are growing out so I need to find a way to keep them out of my eyes. Lately I have been revisiting my elementary school favorite ~ the french braid ~ and putting this safety pin through the middle (a la that photo from stand up comedy I posted a week or two ago). And for my bangs, because I refuse to eat or sit on the computer or in class or do anything at all now with my hair in my face, I have been playing around with this big french hair pin.

Tonight I am going to a prom party in Bushwick. I was planning on getting really decked out but I am scared I will be one of a few that do. Blah, I am sweaty. I am probably just going to continue wearing close to nothing (woo!) until I go out tonight.

When I was looking through Tres Bien Shop yesterday I fell in love with the belgian designer, Stephan Schneider. I have an interview tomorrow at Helmut Lang (ahh!) and I impulsively walked into Opening Ceremony after work with the excuse I was there to find an interview outfit (expect lots of new things for sale soon on my other blog to compensate) and they had tons of his clothes. And I bought something. I should feel guilty but I don't really. And if I don't get the job, at least I have a really amazing dress for summer, right? right. right! Stand Up Comedy - This is definitely my new favorite e-shop. I don't know why it took me so long to stumble upon it, but I wish it was in NYC so I could physically shop here! I found these beauties on ebay last weekend! They are suede and leather Ferragamo's and were insanely cheap. I've been wearing my Dieppa Restrepo lace-ups into the ground and I still feel kinda bad about throwing them away. I tried to photograph some clothes today but my apartment is way too bright and washes everything out (see last post) and I don't have any consistently good places to take pictures. We are moving in July, so maybe I wont have a problem in our new apartment (what a nerdy thing to think about!).

with the close to nonexistent funds i have this month i got these two pairs of shoes for spring. the gap platforms are so amazing! I had a discount, but I was scared to order them online because i hate returning things. They're so much cuter than I imagined! I am sad already thinking about how dirty they will be in a few months. I had been eyeing the minimarket wedges on tresbienshop for about a week and as i noticed every size starting to sell out i impulsively ordered the last pair of 39s. Anyway, I am happy!

I am so obsessed with this gold sweater I found! Last summer I lived in a little yellow sweater tank from Beacons Closet and this one is ten times better (its gold! its D&G! I secretly get to be a little euro trashy!). I have been searching everywhere for inexpensive, simple black harem pants and with no luck, I made these and I'm quite happy with them. annnd lastly, my mom got me these adorable flats for xmas and I haven't gotten a chance to wear them, finally it's getting warm enough!

touch and feel

For the past few weeks I have been working on a touch and feel book. These are some of the finished pages. They are all silk screen with glue and flocking powder. I wish the pictures weren't so bad! The book hopefully will debut at my show on Wednesday. It is so nice out! If only it were like ten or twenty degrees warmer. I want to go to McCarren park today with Luke and drink ice coffee and pretend it really feels like spring.

ahh. I can't take being sick too much longer! my eyes have been all red and sleepy looking for almost two weeks. I am so bummed spring break (my last spring break ever! ahh!) is over. Tons of work this weekend...tons of prep for my thesis show next week. I'm excited about this new blog and with the new cam i am anticipating for my impending 22nd birthday, i'll have lots more to put on it.
